A Problem with Sports
Ian G.

“Mom, I don’t want to go to school. It’s so boring.” I know we have all said this at least once in our lives. All the whining and complaining could stop from many ways. One way is for middle schools to have a wider range of sports. If the districts could make the change, that ugly quote could change to, “Mom, hurry up. I can’t be late for school!”

The first big change would be that kids could show their true colors. In schools across the globe children have been left without a friend in the world. If all the Colorado districts could start giving more sports for students to try we could help those in need of a friend. Sports are a great way to find long lasting friends. In a sport anyone could find a friend because they obviously have the same interests. For example, when I started soccer at 3 years old I met Cayden. We played and played. To this day we are still the best of friends. In schools today, students are given ridicule for what sports they like. Therefore, more sports opportunities will encourage kids to be themselves; not hiding the fact that they might not like the most popular sports like basketball, football, and baseball.

In addition to individuality, more sports can help students get into a better college. If sports start earlier than high school, colleges can see who has the most dedication to their sport. For example, a middle schooler might work harder than a high schooler. Another thing that will change is kids will have the chance for early achievements. With early achievements more college scholarships can be handed out. This will allow skilled athletes who can’t afford college the chance to go to a great one. As for those of us who can afford college, applications will look better; to start at a younger age will help students with work habits as well.

Finally, there will be more extra curricular activities to choose from. With more choices for extra curricular, students will be encouraged to try new things. If more sports were added to the list of choices more students would choose a sport. Therefore, the students at Rocky Heights Middle School and other schools would be healthier. When the students are in a sport they love, school will be more exciting for them. Instead of their moms dragging them out of bed, it will be the students pulling the parents out of bed screaming, “I have to go to school!” This would make the overall attendance record rise.

In conclusion, more sports will improve several things. For example, students will be able to show their individuality. Another thing that will happen is that students will have a better chance at going to college. Finally, there will be more extra curricular activities for students to choose from and will have a good exercise everyday. I think that by have a wider range sports schools would be a lot more fun for kids and it would help with many things.
